Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Little Miss Fashionetta Contestants "Donate to Haiti Earthquake Victims"
Richmond Heights, FL --On January 16, 2010, the contestants of Little Miss Fashionetta, an annual scholarship fundraiser for Pi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, made a generous contribution to the Haiti relief effort. The eight 4th and 5th grade contestants realized the impact that the earthquake had on the people of Haiti and their community and decided quickly to play an active role. Reaching in to their piggy banks and opening their hearts, the young ladies collected over $700 in supplies. These supplies include but are not limited to, infant/toddler items, medical supplies and water. Little Miss Fashionetta Chairperson, Barbara Dent remarked that “It’s important to note that all donations were made from the girls’ own pockets”.
All collected items were brought to the Second Baptist Church in Richmond Heights. The contestants met for a second time on January 23, 2010 to box and wrap all the collected items for shipment. A jet comes bi-weekly to retrieve all donations for the relief effort. The items are then flown directly to Haiti. At the close of the successful drive, Senior Pastor /Teacher of The Second Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Alphonso Jackson Sr. , presented certificates to each of the contestants for their hard work and service to their community and people of Haiti. Also, Minister Debbie Baker of Compassion in Action, fellow member of the Second Baptist Church, was on-hand to commend the young ladies for their selfless act. The Second Baptist Church is located on 11111 Pinkston Drive Miami, FL 33176.
